Week Seventeen
I expected week seventeen to be hard considering that last week's "race week" was so easy and minimal. Turns out that the week after the race was considered to be another "recovery week," meaning another easy week. I had a few fun workouts this week.
I've been taking more swim classes at Simpkins swim center. The instructors are awesome. No matter who is there to teach, I feel like I'm getting a private lesson. They have me do drills specific to my needs and are really good at explaining how those drills relate to improving my swim technique. While others do an entirely different workout just a lane or two over in the same class, I am given a triathlon specific workout. I feel like I'm really improving.
The Harvey West pool opened this week, and I swam there on Friday night. I managed to get an allergic reaction to (I think) the chlorine, and my face felt burned and was blotchy for several days to follow. I hope their chemicals calm down before the next time I go to that pool!
I had a great run with my friend Mimi, and our dogs, Saphira and Osa on Saturday. The weather was great, and it was really fun to watch the dogs run alongside eachother when we were brave enough to take them off leash. (The off leash laws at Pogonip are getting much stricter.) I hope we get to do that again sometime. I'm always on a search for ways to combine my training with exercise for my dog. She HATES to run on a leash, especially if we're near traffic.
On Sunday, I had a 2 hour ride on the schedule. I looked outside, and it was beautifully sunny. I put on my bike clothes, pumped my tires, put on my helmet, and looked outside again. All of a sudden, it was very dark out, and the skies were pouring down. I put in the movie "The Green Mile" and spun on my bike inside for the 2 hours.
Next week starts the longer distances. Coach Mike gave me a modified training schedule so that I will be ready for IMF on June 22nd. I look forward to the longer distances, because right now I'm starting to feel a little worried! :-)
This week's summary:
Monday: rest
Tuesday: spin 30 minutes
Wednesday: swim 2500 yards
Thursday: run 4 miles
Friday: swim 2000 yards
Saturday: run almost 6 miles
Sunday: spin 2 hours
Body Check: same as last week
