Week Thirteen

This has been the last week of vacation for me. Do I really have to go back to work tomorrow? Anyway, it was a great week for the most part.

I did mostly everything the calendar asked me to do this week. A couple of things stand out for me in this week's training: I had a really cool track night, for one. We did four miles: a mile warm up, then a mile at level 7, then another at level 5, then another at level 7. For the first level 7, I PRd my mile time trial: 8:44. Coach Joe told us that our last mile should be slightly faster than the 2nd. I PRd again, and got 8:28! It felt great to achieve that - I don't think I've ever been that close.

Our coached workout today was supposed to be a triple brick (swim, bike, run), but the water was too rough to swim. (We've had very fierce storms here over the last few weeks.) So, we rode out to Bonny Doon and back, and then ran for 40 minutes. It wasn't a very long run, but for some reason I was exhausted the entire afternoon. On the run, a fellow teammate, Kim, tried to convince me that I can run faster than I typically do. She said that maybe there is a "learned speed" that a runner typically goes by, and that I just need to learn how to break out of that. She pushed me really hard for the last mile or so, which was great.

Monday: rest
Tuesday: spin 60 minutes
Wednesday: track (4 miles plus drills and strength)
Thursday: swim 2600 yards
Friday: uh, don't even ask me about Friday
Saturday: spin 80 minutes, run 4 miles (in the pouring rain, jumping over puddles and fallen branches)
Sunday: bike 20 miles, run 4 miles

Body Check: Well, right now, I'm exhausted and need some advil. But mostly, I'm the same as last week. :-)

Total fundraising to date: $2116, but that's going to change soon because it's almost time to start registering kids for the choir (more to come)

What your friend Kim said about running is true of swimming too. I call myself "One Speed Sara" because of my pace set consistency (and the fact that I don't sprint well), but it's also true that it's hard (though worth it!) to push myself to incrementally pick the pace up.

I found out tonight that Oscar is a great running partner. We just went for a little over 2 miles because it was getting dark already. He even pulled me up the hills! I'm excited to have him as a training partner once I start with TNT.
