Week Two

Week two went by so quickly. Mondays are always my favorite - they are our rest day. I think I'm particularly good at Mondays! :-) In fact, I'm so good at resting that I managed to do it on Tuesday as well. Truth is that I didn't have enough time because I went out to dinner (Hulas!) with a bunch of great friends from a former TNT run team.

Wednesday kicked my butt back into shape. We had a super track practice, this time led by Coach Dan, and by "super" I mean it was 2 hours long! We did lots of 8 minutes runs followed by various strengthening drills. I'm finding that I really like to push myself during track.

On Thursday, I got home after dark, and my dog Saphira needed some exercise, too. So, I took her to the Santa Cruz High School track. I put a glowing red light on her collar so that she could run off-leash and be seen. I also held a laser in my hand while I ran (she LOVES to follow light). I ran 4 miles, and she ran every single loop with me, chasing the laser dot. It was a really fun way to get the miles in.

Friday was a swim day. I had gone up to San Francisco to support my team (I coached the summer run team in Santa Cruz) for the Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon. I swam for about 30 minutes in the hotel pool. It was cold and raining. Would you believe I had the pool all to myself? I swam on the diagonal to make the laps as long as possible. On Saturday, I didn't have time for any official training, but I sure was on my feet a lot walking around San Francisco! On Sunday, in support of the runners, I put in about 18 miles. I repeated the mile 6 hill about 4 times, then ran with some participants for awhile, then cut through the city to catch them at different places on the course. I decided that counts for training!

Body Check: I'm noticing a little "tenderness" in my shins and lower right knee. Time to order new shoes, I think.
