One week down, many more to go...
I interpreted this week to be a "get your feet wet" kind of thing. I did very well on Monday, it being a rest day and all. On Tuesday, the team went shopping at Sports Basement, which I couldn't go to because I had my last track practice of summer season.
So, really, Wednesday was day one for me. We had our first track practice with coach Mike. Wow - it was hard! We did drills across the entire football field, one after another, with very little rest time. We ran a bit, and did a TON of strength work. I pushed myself hard, especially when I was followed around the track by the "regular smelly guy" who always seems to be running there, donning his down vest and umbrella under his arm.
On Thursday, I had my 2nd out of three cortisone injections into my spine. I'm getting some "pain management" treatment for a herniated disc. It went well, but it meant no training for me through Saturday. Today (Sunday) was our first coached weekend workout. We spent about an hour in the pool. I learned a lot of drills and various techniques to practice when I'm on my own. I have a LOT to learn about swimming over the next ten months. After the swim, the team ran for 45 minutes. I walked it, even though I felt great, just because my doctor said no running on Sunday.
After the workout, the Santa Cruz Clan got some nourishment, and then headed off to Sports Basement. I bought a squid lid, a watch, and new sunglasses that darken and lighten as the light conditions change. New gear is always so exciting!
I look forward to this week, where I have no limitations and can train according to the schedule.
